DNA company opens its first testing centre in Wales

DNA testing company AlphaBiolabs has opened its latest walk-in clinic in Cardiff city centre - their first testing centre in Wales. The new location brings the total number of testing locations to 11 - including two in London, one in Glasgow and seven others throughout England.

The new centre can collect samples for DNA testing, drug testing and alcohol testing. Alpha boasts the only laboratory in the UK that can offer rapid same-day testing results, and for several years they provided the DNA tests for ITV's The Jeremy Kyle Show. Thanks to their accredited status, the company is able to provide legally approved test results that can be used in court and/or immigration cases.

Wales is one of the fasted-growing markets for the Warrington-based company, with around 26% of their customers coming from the country. This includes ordinary members of the public looking for a paternity test, along with legal professionals and local councils who also rely on DNA, drug or alcohol testing.

Wales has also seen a huge spike in demand for the relatively new prenatal paternity testing service, which can be carried out on a pregnant woman as early as 5 weeks. Unlike the old-fashioned (and potentially dangerous) style prenatal tests, modern prenatal testing only requires a simple blood sample and poses no risk to the expectant mother or their unborn baby.
